Special former members and founders<\/span><\/div>

The members of the committee and of the later foundation often had, and still have, a direct or indirect connection with the war and\/or one of the war monuments. For example, the founders of the committee were often old resistance fighters or relatives of executed resistance fighters. Notable among them are M.M. Oosenbrug, C. Sch\u00fcngel and J.C. Hooykaas.<\/p>\n

Marcus Marinus (Wim) Oosenbrug was tijdens de oorlog een jonge steenhouwer die actief was in het verzet. Vanaf het voorjaar 1944 was Oosenbrug leider van de \u2018Falsificatie-centrale\u2019 (FC). De FC was oorspronkelijk een onafhankelijke groep verzetstrijders die onder leiding van de Nijmeegse student J.J. de Weert vervalsingen van persoonsbewijzen, distributiebescheiden en vele andere nuttige papieren leverde aan de Landelijke Organisatie voor Hulp aan Onderduikers (LO). Na de arrestatie van Weert nam Oosenbrug de leiding over. Oosenbrug zat op dat moment ondergedoken in Gelderland om te ontsnappen aan de krijgsgevangenschap.<\/p>\n

Na de oorlog is Oosenbrug als steenhouwer betrokken geweest bij het maken van onder andere het monument op de Waalsdorpervlakte en het bevrijdingsmonument Loosduinen.<\/p>\n

Oosenbrug is een lange periode voorzitter geweest van de stichting. In 1987 is hij als lid statutair afgetreden. Daarna werd hij benoemd tot lid van verdienste. Oosenbrug stierf op 17 april 1999 op 84-jarige leeftijd.<\/p>\n

C. Sch\u00fcngel<\/div>

Cornelis Sch\u00fcngel was kwartier commandant van de Nederlandse Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten (NBS). Deze verzetsgroep kwam voort uit de Ordedienst (OD), de landelijke knokploegen (LKP) en de Raad van Verzet (RVV). Sch\u00fcngel werkte bij de Nutsspaarbank in Loosduinen waar hij in contact kwam met Jan Willem Kempff, leider van een andere verzetsgroep: de Bijzondere Vrijwillige Landstorm. Na deze ontmoeting werden er plannen gesmeed voor een fusie tussen de verzetsgroepen van Sch\u00fcngel, Kempff en ook de verzetsgroep van Martinus Staamer. Enkele dagen nadat de fusie definitief was werden Kempff en Staamer opgepakt. Zij werden later beiden gefusilleerd. Sch\u00fcngel is de dans ontsprongen en richtte zich na de oorlog op het herdenken van zijn mede verzetsstrijders en andere oorlogsslachtoffers.<\/p>\n

Sch\u00fcngel is binnen de stichting een lange tijd secretaris en penningmeester geweest. In 1982 trad Sch\u00fcngel af. Hierna werd hij lid van verdienste.<\/p>\n

J.C. Hooykaas<\/div>

J.C. Hooykaas was begin 1945 oud secretaris generaal van het Haagse Interkerkelijke Bureau voor de Voedselvoorziening (IKB). De plaatselijke IKB\u2019s werden op 9 januari 1945 wegens de hongerwinter opgericht om er zorg voor te dragen dat in alle grote steden in het westen bureaus zouden worden opgericht voor voedselvoorziening.\u00a0 De IKB\u2019s verstrekten dagelijks voedsel aan kinderen en zieken.<\/p>\n

Bovendien zorgden de IKB\u2019s ook voor kinderevacuaties. Het Haagse IKB stuurde in totaal 4000 kinderen naar het noorden en oosten van het land.<\/p>\n

Daarnaast werden er door de IKB\u2019s ook enkele verzetsdaden\/illegale daden uitgevoerd. Zo verstrekte het IKB persoonsbewijzen aan onderduikers en leden van verzetsgroepen.<\/p>\n

M.M. Oosenbrug<\/div>

Marcus Marinus (Wim) Oosenbrug was a young stonemason who was active in the resistance during the war. From the spring of 1944, Oosenbrug was the leader of the \u2018Falsificatie-centrale\u2019 (FC). The FC was originally an independent group of resistance fighters who, under the leadership of the Nijmegen student J.J. de Weert, supplied forgeries of identity cards, distribution documents and many other useful papers to the National Organisation for Assistance to People in Hiding (LO). After Weert\u2019s arrest, Oosenbrug took over the leadership. At that time, Oosenbrug was in hiding in Gelderland to escape captivity.<\/p>\n

After the war, Oosenbrug was involved as a stonemason in the construction of, among other things, the monument on the Waalsdorpervlakte and the liberation monument in Loosduinen.<\/p>\n

Oosenbrug was chairman of the foundation for a long period. In 1987, he resigned as a statutory member. He was then appointed member of merit. Oosenbrug died on April 17, 1999 at the age of 84.<\/p>\n

C. Sch\u00fcngel<\/div>

Cornelis Sch\u00fcngel was the quarter commander of the Dutch Internal Forces (NBS). This resistance group emerged from the Order Service (OD), the national resistance groups (LKP) and the Council of Resistance (RVV). Sch\u00fcngel worked at the Nutsspaarbank in Loosduinen where he came into contact with Jan Willem Kempff, leader of another resistance group: the Bijzondere Vrijwillige Landstorm. After this meeting, plans were made for a merger between the resistance groups of Sch\u00fcngel, Kempff and also the resistance group of Martinus Staamer. A few days after the merger was final, Kempff and Staamer were arrested. They were both later shot. Sch\u00fcngel escaped and after the war focused on commemorating his fellow resistance fighters and other war victims.<\/p>\n

Sch\u00fcngel was secretary and treasurer within the foundation for a long time. Sch\u00fcngel resigned in 1982. After this he became a member of merit.<\/p>\n

J.C. Hooykaas<\/div>

J.C. Hooykaas was the former secretary general of the Hague Interchurch Bureau for Food Supply (IKB) at the beginning of 1945. The local IKBs were established on 9 January 1945 due to the famine winter to ensure that food supply agencies would be established in all major cities in the west. The IKBs provided food to children and the sick on a daily basis.<\/p>\n

The IKBs also provided child evacuations. The Hague IKB sent a total of 4,000 children to the north and east of the country.<\/p>\n

In addition, the IKBs also carried out several acts of resistance\/illegal acts. For example, the IKB provided identity cards to people in hiding and members of resistance groups.<\/p>\n
